Hair Type

Post by Naturaladdy » Sun Jul 15, 2018 2:57 pm

Good day everyone. I have been natural for about 7 months and would be grateful for your feedback in helping me determine my hair type.

I have tried a few different products but I want to be sure I am using what works best for my hair type.

Thank you in advance

Looks like 3c-4a hair but to use the best products for your hair you need to figure out your hairs porosity. I’d do the porosity test first. Get a glass of water and see if your hair sinks if so it’s high porosity. If it stays at the top it’s low porosity hair. Look on YouTube if you want to figure out how they do it. Also you can take a part of your hair and if it absorbs immediately your high porosity but if the water beads up it’s low. Hope that helped you some.

Also the best way to know your texture is with freshly washed hair also for the porosity test😉

Thank you. Yes I do use oils when styling, almond oil, grape seed, jojoba, olive oil.... these are my choices for oils.

It is really hard to tell hair type by the ends after only 7 months. If you have had chemical processing, even heat styling will alter your natural pattern permanently. I thought that I was 4C because almost everybody who had natural hair on forums 9 years ago identified themselves 4C. My ends were wiry and dry. It took 2-3 years of virgin hair growth to get a handle on my hair type and how to care for it. I was 3C/4A.
The most important thing is to keep your old processed hair hydrated as your new hair grows out especially if you don't plan to do a big chop.
