Styling Frequency?

Post by Jayla » Sun Mar 29, 2015 9:33 pm

How often is too often for styling your hair? I tend to go for once a week, but with transitioning it's kinda hard, especially those last few days before I allow myself to really get into my hair. My relaxed hair starts to lose its curl and uh. . . yeah. I don't want to cause breakage and not retain my fragile ends.

Jayla,
Did you ever come up with a solution to this?

I'm very new to transition and in my second month am finding that even 2 weeks might not work (which is what my hairdresser suggested I try at first).

You may want to consider doing styles that are more long term like twists or braids. Also keep in mind to a certain extent you can only eliminate breakage but so much while you transition because having some breakage is to be expected. You can strengthen your hair by deep conditioning often and doing protein treatments, which reduce the amount that you will experience.

Lol I sorta did. Because I wore my hair loose in a puff back then, I would braid my hair in 8 plaits twice a week to take out in the morning. It worked for my hair, but I got tired and ended up chopping at 18 months post. I'm now going to hit 3 years post at the end of October. I'm so glad I've made this journey and at such a young age too (I am 15 years old).
If I had to do it all over again, I would take the Admin's advice and do more protective styles. I still have yet to do one, but I've learned more and more about crochet braids and have been eyeing the crochet box braids for a little.
Stay strong in your journey, Trakena! It's totally worth the wait!
